Cornish Coastline Training Weekend
Join the Ruby Red Team for this social training weekend - limited places available
Ideal for anyone running 50mile or 100mile races on the SWCP in Cornwall in Jan 2025.
Come and join us for a social training weekend as we run key parts of the Cornish Coastline between Coverack and Porthtowan.
Arrive Friday night, meet other runners for informal dinner as we talk through the planned runs and share our experiences of the wonderfully frightening Arc of Attrition.
Saturday: Aim of day is to get time on feet and scope out key aspects of the route. Runs will be split into a morning run of approx 13 miles and then an evening/night run of upto 20miles
Sunday: Enjoy a daylight run through the Dunes of Doom
Note: Participants will be expected to carry mandatory kit.
General Overview
This social winter training weekend comprises of 3 guided runs + accommodation + aid station support + 2 evening meals
Saturday Morning: Coverack to Kynance Cove
Sat Evening: Night run from Lands End/Sennan Cove to Zennor
Sun Morning: Hayle to Godrevy through the Dunes of Doom
If you only have the opportunity to recce parts of the Arc of Attrition route...these are the essentials
Our base will be at Holifield Hostel in Gweek, TR12 6UJ
The Ruby Red Team will be available from late afternoon on Friday Nov 22nd until early afternoon on Sunday 24th Nov
We will be doing 3 guided run routes across the weekend
Saturday Morning: Coverack to Kynance Cove - approx 20km
Sat Evening: Night run from Lands End to Zenor - approx 27km
Sun Morning: Hayle to Hells Mouth through the Dunes of Doom - approx 12km
The event is perfect for anyone entered into the Arc of Attrition 100 or 50, however it is not essential that you are running the Arc to join.
With 3 qualified guides who have good knowledge of the area, we will be able to tailor the group according to ability during each run.
As a guide we would expect runners to be comfortable running 1/2 marathon trail distances at approx 13min/mile (8min/km) pace, on good trails.
This social weekend is open to anyone aged 18 years or older.
The cost for the weekend is £250 this includes:
- 2 nights accommodation in shared single sex dorms (max 8 per dorm)
- Evening meals on the Friday & Saturday Nights
- Breakfast Saturday/Sunday morning (Porridge / Cereals / Toast)
- 3 Guided runs (all guides have local knowledge and are minimum LiRF qualified)
- Transport to and from each guided run
- Mobile aid station at key points during each run to top up drinks and food
- Option to be picked up from and dropped off at local station to encourage use of public transport
Final details
*Note all times are approximate and will be flexed according to the groups needs*
Fri 22nd Nov:
- From 6pm --> Meet at HQ in Gweek
- Options to be picked up from Truro train station (6.40, 7.30, 8.39, 9.45)
- 8pm ish --> Dinner & run through plan for weekend
Sat 23rd Nov:
- 7.30 ish --> Breakfast available
- 8.30am --> Leave for Coverack
- 9.15am --> Start run from Coverack to Kynance Cove
- ~1pm (but very flexible depending on group pacings) --> Return to Gweek
- ~2pm --> Lunch most likely at the SandBar at Praa Sands (please note that the cost of lunch will need to be covered separately)
- 6pm --> Depart for Lands End
- 7pm --> Start run to Zennor
- Approx Midnight --> Return from Zennor to Gweek
Sun 24th Nov:
- 8.30 am --> Leave HQ transfer to Hayle
- 9am --> Run Dunes of Doom
- 11.30am --> Optional brunch at Trevaskis farm
- Drop off available for trains back from Hayle (11.02, 12.18, 13.02)
It is not necessary to have a car over the weekend as there will be transport available to drop off and pick up from each run, therefore if you are interested in car sharing or using public transport we can help co-ordinate this.
If you would prefer to drive, there is plenty of parking available at event HQ

We will ensure that there is the option for same sex dorms for the Cornish Coastline Weekend
Whilst we recommend that runners entered in the Arc of Attrition should carry the full mandatory kit specified for the event. The minimum we will need you to have for each run is:
- Suitable trail-running footwear
- Waterproof jacket with hood This must withstand bad weather on the coastal paths in winter and be made of a waterproof* and breathable** membrane with a minimum 10 000 mm water column (recommended RET less than 13).
- 2 x Warm second layer (one can be worn)
- Waterproof over-trousers The seams must be sealed or fully taped. They do not replace the long-legged trousers or race leggings.
- Warm & waterproof gloves A combination of separate warm gloves (or mittens) and waterproof outer gloves is acceptable.
- Warm beanie hat
- Cap, bandana or buff
- Running pack (or similar)
- Capacity to carry a minimum of 1.5 litres of fluid
- Fully functioning head or hand torch (min 200 lumens / Including spare batteries). (Saturday Night)
- Survival bag or emergency bivvy bag
- Emergency food reserve Recommendation is a minimum of 800 kcals (2 x gels and 2 x energy bars)
- Whistle
For both Saturday runs there will be a mobile aid station with water/hot drinks and basic food.
You will have the option of having a small drop bag at the aid station.
Exact location for aid stations will depend on the groups and will be agreed on the day, however most likely points are:
